Richard Cotton

Richard is responsible for UK and International Student Recruitment at the University of Manchester, the largest recruiting university in the UK. In addition, he has responsibility for delivering the University’s widening participation agenda and for International Relations, which includes the development of partnerships with overseas universities and agencies. Prior to joining Manchester, Richard was Director of the International Office at Cardiff University, developing the University’s International Strategy, including establishing operations in China and India.  Before moving into Higher Education, Richard spent 15 years at the British Council working in a variety of roles in the UK and overseas. His last role at the British Council was Country Director for The United Arab Emirates, based in Abu Dhabi and covering operations across the Emirates. Previous roles at the British Council include Head of the CEO and Chair’s Office based in London; Director Programmes China and Education Counsellor, British Embassy Cultural and Education Section, Beijing; Director Education and Science, Thailand based in Bangkok; and Director Arts and Science (Second Secretary), British Embassy Cultural and Education Section, Beijing.
