The majority of my career to date has been based at UWE, Bristol; the exception being a four year period working for NHS Direct supporting developments in health information for patients. Having qualified as a librarian my initial role at UWE was Customer Services Manager for Library Services, leading a range of services to support students from enquiry provision, to disability support and working with local schools and colleges. Having led a wide ranging area it felt a natural progression to my current role as Head of Student Administration and Advice. In this role I have oversight of our Student Administration Teams, Student Advice Team, Information Points, Start of Year planning and other functions. Working closely with colleagues in Student Support and Wellbeing, Accommodation and Security I have established a team of staff who support our students on and off campus overnight and at weekends. This has enabled us to provide dedicated support 24/7 during term time. Alongside this development has been the implementation of our learner analytics product – MyEngagement. The system is based in our Student Advice team and is becoming central to how we bring together a range of data feeds to enable us proactively contact students and offer support. A key element of my role is developing this system and the associated processes. Within Student Administration and Advice we continue to explore how we can improve the student experience and move from a position of reactivity to proactivity in our systems, processes and communications.
